Ollie Waton - Liberty snare drum review
I really enjoyed playing this drum. It’s not overstated in terms of quirky design or features, just an honest sounding drum.
First of all, I cranked both heads to get that funky crack; without any real effort the drum sounded good and gave me a consistent response, just a touch of dampening to take out one particular harmonic, and we were ready to go.
Loosening the top head and the snares now to get that ‘tight kit’ pop tone, and again this drum steps up. The 6.5″ shell gives a real depth to the punch of the drum, I did find myself playing with the lugs a little more to get the sound to sit comfortably without the interference of overtones, but this only took a second, and the drum was doing great things again. I actually liked this sound so much I used it on a new album track for James Flannigan.
It was then time to really loosen the heads, and this is where this drum stands above the rest. The power of the lows it projects are astounding; perfect for pop/rock work with that loose thuddy sound.

A whopper order but here they are. An eleven piece drum set colour lacquered by Liberty Drums for a special client in France. It has one of the biggest bass drums i’ve ever worked with, A WHOPPING 32″! Man, I could live in that.
